Air Quality Advocacy

FRIENDS OF I-5 CID is a coalition dedicated to clean air advocacy and environmental justice for our community. We believe that everyone deserves to breathe clean, healthy air, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status. Our organization is committed to raising awareness about the impact of air pollution on public health and the environment, and we advocate for policies and initiatives that promote cleaner air and environmental equity in the CID. Through community engagement, outreach, and collaboration with local stakeholders, we strive to ensure that our neighborhood has access to clean air and a sustainable environment for generations to come.

The initiatives include Puget Sound Clean Air Agency monitoring. This is a project to increase community-directed air monitoring and interest in air pollution, especially in areas that are overburdened. This is from a 3-year grant funded by EPA and Inflation Reduction Act funds.

PurpleAir monitoring will be included in this initiative. Raw Purple Air data are about often two times higher than the real-time actual values. We know this from placing Purple Air sensors at our regulatory monitors and comparing measurements. Air quality can also be highly variable over short and long distances, and could vary throughout the city. Conversions will be implemented to provide residents with accurate and up-to-date information.
